Building the team for resilience

Resilience training increases members’ capacity to deal with stressful events and build a positive orientation to life’s issues. Peter Kueffer, Clinical Director of VICSES presents this one hour group program.

Stress reactions and mental health disorders

Wearing orange overalls puts one at higher risk of developing stress reactions and mental health disorders. A study conducted on the Critical Incident Stress Response in US Emergency Service Workers found that:

  • 10% of workers experience no effects post trauma
  • 40% expressed signs of stress for 3-4 days
  • 20% expressed signs of stress for up to 6 weeks
  • 205 expressed signs of stress for up to 12 months
  • 3-10% developed profound effects (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)
