Quit Smoking

Why quit?

Welfare Services Awareness Training

Welfare Services Awareness Training

One in five people have mental health issues in our community. Stress affects many people. The CFA knows that from time to time CFA volunteers and paid personnel will develop an emotional response to an emergency event. And sometimes they will not cope well with exposure to these types of events, as well as the added pressures from their personal life.

“Brigade members face many challenges, including attending potentially traumatic incidents, relationship issues and juggling CFA commitments with other work and home commitments. All of these can have an impact on a person’s mental health, which can affect their ability to function day to day, how they interact with others and how they cope on the job. That’s why it’s just as important for CFA members to manage their mental health as it is their physical health”.
– Euan Ferguson

The Healthwatch program was originally piloted in 2007 with Victorian Emergency Service Volunteers, and following an overwhelmingly positive response CFA received funding to extend the program in 2009.

The program provides free and confidential health checks to volunteer members across the state, and includes measures of height, weight, waist circumference, blood pressure, blood cholesterol (TC, HDL & LDL), triglycerides and glucose.
